First time racing at Thruxton
First time at Thruxton.
Put in a replacement gearbox with longer ratios from a 1.1 Saxo! as the S1 rally box I felt would run out of revs. There was certainly no danger with the Saxo box, I reckon it'd be good for 140!
A few spins due to braking issues again, but overall fairly uneventful. But the circuit is mega requiring a lot of confidence.

Hyundai i20N does the Harewood hillclimb

Took the car along the the Harewood Hillclimb Academy day - great fun, helped by great weather and good food. Old and worn Pirelli PZero's not up to much on this course, not a lot of grip, and I've got a really soft brake pedal that I've been trying to cure for a few weeks now. But other than that the car went well, although for comparison, the Class Fastest time is 62s, and I'm struggling to b...

First competitive run out of the year for the Rallye. New engine was really good, probably the first time I've had an engine on par with everyone else. Brakes were also on point, and for the first time in years the handbrake worked. Downsides - not convinced the newly refurbed dampers are good, and the rears may be busted. Worse though was that the steering was knocked out of alignment very eas...
Hyundai I20N v GR Yaris at Thruxton (track battle)

Couple of laps chasing a GR Yaris around Thruxton. It was closer than you might think. My car is factory spec in this video Factory brakes - which last about 4-5 laps before some fairly massive fading. Also the brakes get very spongey with persistent lappery, and regularly need a bleed. First time at Thruxton, great circuit. Unbeknown to me, the lap timer was working whilst I was out on circuit...

Warning - some sweary content! Not a great race for me, the car developed a misfire and was running on three cylinders all day. Still qualified 4th in class though!. To make matters worse the brakes were bled and I ended up putting air in the system and no time to re-bleed. However the race itself saw me get hit by another competitor, whilst the race was under A SAFETY car. Take a look at 9m30s...

😎 PURE DRIVING WITH HYANDAI I120N 😎😎
Nice!!
Well done
dont forget i20n cost half money of the yaris GR...i20n what a car
That was what you call sending it great driving😂
You're welcome for the clip lol
Everytime i hear Ride Like The Wind by Christopher Cross, this video lives rent free in my head
3:00 had to watch that a few times haha nice one.
Hi, impressive car. Im trying to build my own 16v 106. i can contact you?😃
Sure, try my insta handle @car_control_and_commitment and message me there
no traction control, no ABS or Stabilisation system, no Power steering: it was all about driver and Co-driver to use the cababilities of the car to reach finish line y( and by the way the own physical capabilities as the drivers really were totally exhausted after such rallies). Pure Heroes!
The GR in a straight line is a bit quicker but when the corners start the i20N will turn in identically to the four wheel drive, which makes it admirable! Especially if we consider the difference in transmission between them and the price difference.
Brilliant drive, the 20 rocks😊
The GR Yaris is a faster car, and I own an i20N, however it’s not apples for apples as the Yaris gr is £10k more to buy
La magia de los coches de carreras esta en Europa . . .
Nice. Pads look unavailable now on CTC’s website. Any other place to get them?
No fiesta is safe!
GR Yaris driver is my grandma 😂😂😂
Brilliant. I love the i20N.
the video is a wee bit laggy
get a pc with a graphics card and a pentium processor
@@carcontrolcommitment watching on a freshly built 12th gen i3 with a rx6600 8gb graphics card, its probably your sd card that cant keep up just an observation.
@@carcontrolcommitment Bruh? What a arrogant answer. You could be a little bit more reputable. The video is laggy, nothing to do with expensive graphic cards or CPU‘s. I can watch fully detailed 4K videos on my iPhone, your answers is absolutely nonsense. Get some manners.
@@jaybrown0108 it was a joke, you know ‘pentium processor’ off of the 90s. But I guess you weren’t born then. Hey ho, thanks for watching. 👀
I see it laggy too from my iphone 15 pro max
You still using carbotech brake pads ?
Not on this occasion
Hard to say which is faster, I20N driver may of been driving harder than the Yaris driver, only way to tell is out the I20N driver in the Yaris and compare his lap times.
The gr Yaris is a lot faster in the right hands
GR Yaris is definitely the faster car, but you are obviously the faster driver.
Great drive 👍

Jimmy McRae is a legend.

Looks good but not sure its much faster than my old track dog.......Clio172 cup....would be interested to see if its much faster round Donny than my current R56 Cooper S?
It did a 1m23 ish around Donny, with me driving at 90%.
Gracias por el video 👍. Faltó mi piloto , Kankkunen
Alén told there was 750 hp engine in his car in this rally. Attacks pretty error-free
no he was not. No way did that car ever have that much power in group B. maybe 550, but more likely 500.
@@carcontrolcommitment "For the Corse variant, the Abarth was able to extract way more power from the setup. Various sources claim that the power during engine testing surpassed the 1000 hp mark, but the rally cars ran around 450 horsepower at 8,000 RPM and 289 lb-ft of torque for the 1985 season. In 1986, the figures were raised to 480 hp at 8,400 RPM and 362 lb-ft of torque, although the power output was unofficially over 550 horsepower. Moreover, Markku Alen claimed that his Delta S4 had 750 horsepower at the final event of the 1986 season." Many Finnish group B drivers say it was impossible to use all the power the cars had in the races all the time. The tyres would't last to the end of the stage.
I was there. Great rally days. Steve Ryder was the best ever commentator of rallying.
Seriously when you think back to this .... They were absolutely beautiful fascinating times.... But a water splash and a jump........ Please don't insult our intelligence......... Absolutely Wonderful Rally Times........ Pity for future generations.......
Me and Steve Norris were here watching this with our bobble hat's on knitted by my wife Stacey.......... You won't see this back in 2023....... Chatsworth........
Metcalfe was also super committed incredible talent
What spec was this mate. And what tyres ? Well driven
This car was standard spec apart from upgraded brake pads - Carbon Lorraine CL5 I think, and EBC heat treated front discs. Both absolutely necessary for track work. Rear discs and pads were standard Renault items. Brake fluid upgraded, but not really required. (just get fresh fluid). Tyres were Hankook Ventus 5. It was an unbelievable car on track, took close to 3000 track miles and 30 plus hours on track , in 18 months, no problem at all. I miss it!
Awesome. Same as what mines going to be then. Got the exact same pads. What tyres ?
@@SteveWright-wl3cz I just used the standard tyres that came with the car, Hankook Ventus. And then cycled them around the car until they needed changing. You need to run them at 40 psi cold, else you'll be on the sidewall all the way around. But there are better tyres around. You need to be careful about a performance tyre like and AD09 though as they put a lot more stress into the bearings. During my ownership, I did the dephaser, and replaced the front struts as they were rusting, other than that nothing but consumables. It never used any oil, but I did replace it regularly.
The MG metros weren't there?
they are there, it's just that they were so slow, we're still waiting for them to cross the finish line of the first stage.

Put carbotech front disc pads in my i 20 N , done 3 trackdays , the burnt out ! Fuckin shockin , what a waste of money do not use these brake pads , what a rip off !
well no brake pad is going to last for ever on track. How much mileage did you do, I'd suggest 3 days is not bad. I've done 4 days of approx 100 miles per day and there's still enough left for an evening session.
Probs 250 miles on track , cadwell , knockhill , croft , distroyd me calliper seals , this , will be second set of callipers under warranty , the car has done 11 trackdays so far , my kona N has done 16 trackdays , calipers changed 2 times , used ebc blue stuff they lasted for 3 trackdays , gona stick to manufactures pads , get roughly 3 days outa them
i20 , had new cv joints plus boots fitted , ( split ) , new exhaust aswell , ownership not as good as i thought it would be , time to sell it ?

Never seen this footage before, thanks for uploading!
Hi , got i20n 4 weeks ago , done 4 trackdays with it so far , 3rd set of front brake pads , wot do you suggest , dont wont yo pay for expensive carbon ones ? Thanks 👍
carbotech XP8. Although I think you are replying to another video.
Thanks
Oh those were the days.... I remember the Guisborough Stage like it was yesterday. Silly o'clock, freezing cold and excited as hell.... memories 👍
I overtook you because I assumed you were breaking down while making no effort to catch up the cars in front. Im well aware you’re class C but I judged you to be going so slow you must had a problem, by the time got to your rear quarter it was too late, might have explained this on the day but after you having a tantrum and swerving around as if to threaten to hit me deliberately I didn’t waste my time.
No overtaking under the safety car. You can complain about my driving after the race. You don’t smash in to me to get me out of the way. I stood next to you outside the Clerks office, you were aware of which car I was driving because you asked. I however wasn’t 100% sure you were the culprit. You could have apologised . Instead you were plotting what to say to the clerk trying to lie your way out of it. There’s no excuse for why you did. 3 marshals posts , the light boards are so bright I am surprise they don’t have planes landing on the craners. Take a long hard look at your driving. In the meantime if I see you I. The paddock I’ll do my best to be civil to you. I hope you can do the same to me. It is done and that is it.
9 drivers were given penalty’s due to back markers/slower drivers that had been lapped not picking up the pace and catching the safety car
I reckon I had dropped my pace by about 2 secs. So that’s bollocks. The safety car continues until the grid has caught up. Read the rule book.
@@carcontrolcommitment just watching your video, very aggressive driver and maybe mute your videos so they can’t hear your terrible language, slower drivers must catch the pack up to the safety car which wasn’t happening and was causing issues
@@scottsmith3149lol you’re trolling me now.
It was also dangerous to get along side the offending car and weave left to right at him under safety car conditions.
if your a friend of the other driver, I understand why you have that point of view.
Perhaps knowing you had a miss fire you should have been more aware of faster cars around you. Irrespective of it being a safety car or not. You left that door fairly open and in normal race conditions you can guarantee some one would put there nose up there.
It wasn't normal race conditions though. The race was neutralised, I passed ( which mean they passed) 3 marshals posts all showing the SC board. There should not have been even the hint of an attempt to overtake. I was also completely aware of faster cars as the rest of my video shows.
Clearly could see he never intended to hit you on purpose was an accident, blown well out of proportion, it’s racing these things happen
@@scottsmith3149 there is no excuse for overtaking under the safety car
